South Korea targets to attract 300000 foreign students by 2027
Education Ministry says, it aims to attract 300,000 foreign students to its universities by 2027 to boost its global competitiveness
This proactive measure is an offshoot of ‘Study Korea 300K Project’, collaborative effort from universities, businesses, and regional governments
Ultimate goals are to stimulate regional economy, advance global competitiveness of domestic universities, and bolster S.Korea’s high-tech industries
S.Korean government will designate special zones to facilitate globalization of education
One department specifically committed to drawing foreign students will be established within Korean Education Centres in multiple countries
To simplify entire process, Education ministry work towards easing regulations restricting universities’ activities aimed at attracting foreign students
Moreover, task force comprising of universities, businesses, and regional governments is to be created to devise strategies to fulfil needs of foreign students
Government will develop and disseminate digital resources for Korean language learning. This would ensure that anyone can access these resources at any time
Government will introduce fast-track program, which enables individuals to acquire permanent residency or even qualify for naturalization as Korean citizens in short time
