Rare Case: Infant’s Eyes Turn Blue After Taking COVID-19 Treatment

In a highly unusual medical occurrence, the eyes of a 6-month-old infant changed from dark brown to indigo blue.

Shortly after receiving treatment for COVID-19 with the antiviral drug Favipiravir.

While this is a rare case, it is not the first instance where patients have reported eye color changes following Favipiravir administration

Its mechanism of action involves preventing viruses from replicating their genetic material.

Initially approved for use in treating COVID-19 by Chinese authorities in early 2020, Favipiravir has gained acceptance in multiple countries, such as India, Japan, and Thailand.
