Most distant star ever found seen clearer than everMost distant star ever found seen clearer than ever
Fondly titled ‘Earendel’ by researchers, this celestial object, perched at a distance of 28 billion light years, is one of the oldest known markers in our galaxy.
Observations from James Webb have allowed scientists to ascertain that Earendel is twinkling at a temperature over twice that of our Sun.
Earendel, taken from Old English, conveniently translates to “morning star”.
In a splendid showcase of cosmic beauty, the James Webb Space Telescope, which marks its first anniversary this month, also captured a detailed close-up of Rho Ophiuchi.
Being the nearest star formation region to our planet, located just 390 light-years away, it is home to approximately 50 young stars.
