The junta that took power in Niger on July 26, 2023, has revealed the composition of its new government on Thursday.
The government will be headed by Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zene, who was appointed by the junta leader Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani earlier this week.
The new government will have 21 ministers, most of whom are civilians. However, some key ministries, such as defense and interior, will be led by generals from the junta.
The decree announcing the new government was read out on national television by the spokesman of the junta, Col. Moussa Hamani.
He said that the government’s mission was to “ensure the continuity of public services and to implement the program of the CNSP.”
