Devastation Unveiled: Mayor of Derna in Libya Fears Death Toll May Exceed 20,000
In the eastern parts of Libya lays the calamity-stricken city of Derna, a city that has recently bore the brunt of the destructive storm “Daniel”.
Flooding and torrential downpours have decimated this ancient city, leaving her inhabitants in a state of disarray and extensive suffering.
According to the city’s mayor, Abdel Moneim Al-Ghaithi, the devastation is of such a massive scale that it borderline exceeds the city’s capacity.
Al-Ghaithi has expressed concern over the potential death toll in the city, primarily based on the population density of affected areas.
The figure is anticipated to exceed a staggering number of 20,000 individuals. With rescue teams still in the process of recovering bodies of victims lost to the turbulent sea.
